Melasma is patchy facial hyperpigmentation that worsens with sun, hormones, and aggressive treatment. The wrong tools make it worse. The right approach is gentle, consistent, and combines in-clinic work with strict at-home care.
We do NOT use IPL for melasma — the broadband light worsens the condition for most patients.
Laser Genesis delivers gentle gradual reduction with no risk of rebound. A series of 4–6 sessions is typical.
Light superficial chemical peels (low-percentage glycolic, lactic, or Jessner’s) work alongside Genesis to even tone.
Strict sun protection and a melasma-specific topical regimen at home is what makes everything else stick. We will prescribe both at consult.
If you have patchy darker discoloration on the cheeks, forehead, or upper lip — especially if it worsens after pregnancy, with hormones, or with sun exposure. If you’ve tried IPL elsewhere and it got worse.
Every treatment at Contoured is delivered by a named, credentialed team member — and every dosing plan is reviewed by a board-certified physician.
