Emsculpt NEO for post-injury muscle recovery and deconditioning.

Muscle atrophy after injury, surgery, or extended immobilization is one of the slowest things to recover. Emsculpt NEO forces muscle contraction at a level no rehabilitation exercise can match — accelerating return-to-baseline strength dramatically.

How the treatment works

The mechanism — plain language.

When you’re immobilized — from a cast, brace, surgical recovery, or extended bed rest — the affected muscles begin to atrophy within days. Two weeks of disuse can result in 20%+ loss of muscle mass.

Standard rehabilitation requires you to voluntarily contract the affected muscles repeatedly. This works, but it’s slow — and many patients lose months of recovery time waiting for muscle to rebuild.

Emsculpt NEO uses HIFEM to force muscle contraction even when voluntary activation is limited by pain or weakness. The forced contractions stimulate the muscle to rebuild — accelerating recovery timelines significantly.

Common applications: post-knee surgery (knee/quad atrophy), post-pregnancy (abdominal deconditioning), prolonged sedentary periods (overall core/glute atrophy), shoulder/arm immobilization recovery.

Clinical evidence

What the research shows.

Published research has documented Emsculpt’s ability to rebuild muscle mass and strength faster than voluntary exercise alone. In clinical applications, the technology has been used successfully for both cosmetic muscle-building and rehabilitative muscle-recovery purposes.

Is this right for you?

Who qualifies.

  • Post-surgical recovery where muscle atrophy is a meaningful concern
  • Post-injury immobilization (cast, brace) lasting more than 2 weeks
  • Prolonged sedentary periods due to medical conditions
  • You have medical clearance from your treating surgeon or physician to begin muscle stimulation

Not the right approach if:

You’re still in acute healing — we wait for incision sites to close and surgical sutures to remove before treatment. You haven’t received clearance from your treating physician. You have electronic implants in the treatment area. The injury site has not stabilized.

Medical oversight

Reviewed and supervised
by a board-certified plastic surgeon.

This is medical care — not cosmetic. Every plan at Contoured is reviewed and approved by Dr. Benjamin Lam, DO, a board-certified plastic surgeon and clinical associate professor at PCOM. That oversight isn’t standard at most medspas. It is here.

Common questions

What patients ask before starting.

Will my surgeon be okay with this?
Most surgeons see Emsculpt as a useful adjunct to traditional rehabilitation. We require medical clearance from your treating physician before beginning treatment. We’re happy to coordinate with your care team.
How is this different from physical therapy?
It complements physical therapy. PT focuses on functional movement, flexibility, and gradual strengthening. Emsculpt rebuilds raw muscle mass through forced contraction — which then gives PT more to work with.
When can I start after surgery?
Depends on the surgery. Generally we wait until surgical sutures are removed, swelling has resolved, and your surgeon has cleared you to begin active muscle work. This is typically 4–8 weeks post-procedure for most surgeries.
How long until I feel stronger?
Most patients notice strength increases by session 3. Functional improvement (climbing stairs, lifting, etc.) is typically clear by session 4–5.
Is it covered by insurance?
Currently no — Emsculpt is not covered by medical insurance even for rehabilitation use. Self-pay. We provide written pricing at consult.
