Most patients who come to Contoured for sclerotherapy have tried at least one other provider. The recurring patterns:

What it actually is
Sclerotherapy — in plain language.
Spider veins are tiny dilated blood vessels under the skin. They’re harmless medically, but cosmetically — they limit what you wear.
Sclerotherapy uses a very fine needle to inject a solution called polidocanol directly into each spider vein. The solution irritates the vein wall, the vein collapses, and your body breaks it down and resorbs it over weeks.
It’s been the gold standard for spider veins for over 80 years. The newer foam version (Asclera) is what we use — better coverage, less product, fewer needle sticks.
Most legs need 2–4 sessions to clear visibly, depending on how dense the spider veins are. Compression stockings during recovery are non-negotiable — they’re what makes the result stick.

Does sclerotherapy hurt?
Most patients say it’s a brief pinch and a mild burning sensation that lasts a few seconds, then nothing. We use very fine needles (32 gauge) and inject slowly.
How long until I see results?
Treated veins start fading at week 2 and continue improving for 4–6 weeks. We see you back at the 6-week mark to assess and treat any remaining veins.
Why do I have to wear compression stockings?
Compression keeps the collapsed vein walls pressed together so they seal properly. Skip the stockings and the result is significantly weaker — sometimes the vein refills.
Are there side effects?
Most common: temporary bruising and small brown marks (hyperpigmentation) that fade over 3–6 months. Rarely, a small ulcer can form at an injection site. We dose carefully to minimize all of these.
Will the veins come back?
The veins we treat are gone for good — your body resorbs them. But new spider veins can form in adjacent areas over years, especially with hormones, gravity, and genetics. Most patients come back every 2–4 years for maintenance.
Can I exercise after?
Walking is encouraged — it improves blood return. Avoid high-impact exercise (running, heavy lifting) for 48 hours, and stay out of hot tubs and saunas for 2 weeks.
